Ginger Doggie House Instructions

CONGRATS on finding the most unique holiday treat for furry friend!
Your pup is going to love watching you build this!

Whether you’ve built a human gingerbread house before or not, you got this!
Follow the steps below (or watch a youtube video) and have fun with your pup!

YOU WILL NEED:

  • A small bowl for mixing
  • A whisk or a fork
  • 60-70gr of water for the icing
  • A flat base to set and display your gingerbread house on
(a cutting or cake board, a large plate or a charcuterie board are best!)
  • Patience from both you and your pup!

STEPS:

  1. Make the Doggie Icing

In a small bowl, empty the “DOGGIE ICING” packet provided.

OPTIONAL: add a few drops of honey to the icing mix to make it extra sticky

Add room temperature water gradually, 1 teaspoon at a time and stir with a whisk or a fork. Continue until icing mix begins to form large clumps and it sticks to the whisk. After this point, add a little bit more water and whisk until all clumps are dissolved and icing has a thick paste consistency and shiny smooth texture (like dense frosting).

IMPORTANT: adding too much water to the icing mix will result in runny icing that can make building more challenging. Take time to stir thoroughly before adding more water.

Add icing mix to the piping bag provided, tie the open end with a rubber band to prevent the icing from drying and set aside until you are ready to start using it.

For a thin stream of icing, cut the tip of the icing bag near the corner. That works best for details such as the sign in step #2.
For a thicker stream of icing, cut a bit more length from the piping bag.

  2. Decorate the Doggie House Sign

Use the bone shaped cookie, icing and your imagination to make the perfect sign for your doggie house. Set aside to dry while you work on the next step.

  3. Secure the Walls

Lay the house pieces flat with the wood-textured side facing down. Plan where the house pieces meet at the corners. This step will help you see where to add icing to glue the pieces together.

Pipe a thick line of icing to the bottom of the back piece and set it up-right onto the base using the icing as glue. The piece should stand on its own.

Pipe a thick layer of icing to the bottom of 1 side piece. Do the same at the point where the side piece will attach to the back one. Set to the base and apply light pressure to both pieces.

Repeat the same steps to the other side piece. Leave the front piece for last.

Take a break to tell your dog how awesome they are while you wait for the icing to solidify a bit.

  4. Build the Roof

Once the base of the house is dry enough to stand without support, it's time to add the roof!

Hold the roof pieces over your newly built house to see where they will connect to the walls and to each other.

Pipe a thick line of icing on to 1 roof piece, where it touches the front, back and side piece. Attach it with light pressure. Watch for any sliding before moving on to the last piece.

Repeat the last step to attach the final roof piece. Add icing to where this piece will connect with the other roof piece as well.

Hold in place or use support under each roof piece until icing holds without support.

Some gap where the roof pieces meet sometimes occurs but does not affect the stability of the structure! You can easily cover it when you start decorating!

  5. Decorate your Doggie House

Using the remaining icing, decorate your house using the sign and decorations provided. You can also use peanut butter as icing but keep in mind it does not fully solidify.

OPTIONAL: add any other treats/toppings you would like to make your doggie house more unique! To qualify for our Doggie House contest, only BonBones treats are allowed. View more details in the "RULES" section below.
